The invention relates to a manual drive for a wheel-chair having two drive wheels. It is the object to create a manual drive that has as little bulk as possible and with which a longer acceleration path can be implemented with a more steady propulsion. Moreover, the force needed is to be adapted to the different requirements. This object is achieved in that each drive wheel is fitted with a sliding element which intersects the geometrical axis of the drive wheel and whose two ends lie opposite each other on a circle around the geometrical axis, and in that the sliding element is connected to a laterally projecting handle which is displaceably guided over the entire length of the sliding element, it being possible for the sliding element to be coupled to the drive wheel at least with regard to one direction of rotation.
