Method of supporting an underground mining space in the roadway/face transition area, the roadway being supported with support assemblies in accordance with the advancing roadway drivage. In accordance with the rate of advance, the face is connected to the roadway via a face entry. When passing through the face entry, the support assemblies are underpinned above the face entry. During the driving of the roadway, bores running at an angle in the driving direction are made on the wall side in the rock and/or the roof edge. Inserted anchor-like into these bores are edge bearers which have head parts projecting from the bores and having mounting elements for the support assemblies to be underpinned. These support assemblies are attached to the mounting elements at least when passing through the face entry.
