For producing a web of flexible material formed with at least one inflatable chamber, a layer of a material vulcanisable at a higher temperature is arranged on a layer of a material vulcanisable at low temperature to form an intermediate structure, the intermediate structure is heated at the lower temperature, the intermediate structure is subsequently arranged between two wider webs or sheets of vulcanisable material and the arrangement comprising the sheets or webs with the intermediate structure arranged in between is vulcanised at the higher temperature. After the heating, the intermediate structure has one side which during vulcanising bonds to the web or sheet of vulcanisable material, while the other layer of the intermediate structure does not enter into any bond with the opposing rubber web. This material can be used to produce packers by pieces being cut off from an endless web and interconnected at the ends. After arranging valves on the annularly joined-together piece of an endless material web, the chambers which are formed in the material web can be inflated, so that the function of a packer or pipeline sealing cushion can be performed.
