For the cost-effective charging of a free-flowing reaction component with a blowing agent which has a low boiling point or is even gaseous at room temperature and/or other additives for the production of polyurethane foams, it has proved to be advantageous to fit on the storage vessel (1) of the reaction component to be charged a connection piece (9) to which a pressure vessel (13) of a volume several times smaller can be connected, this pressure vessel (13) being filled with a suitable amount of the same reaction component, and the amount of blowing agent and/or additive required for the entire amount of reaction component to be charged with blowing agent and/or additive likewise being introduced into the pressure vessel (13), a preliminary mixture being prepared therefrom and this preliminary mixture subsequently being introduced into the storage vessel (1) and mixed with the content.
