The method for generating a to-and-fro measurement of a magnetic body (1) is based on utilising the alternating repulsion forces of first permanent magnets (3.1 and 3.2) arranged on either side of the magnetic body and outside its range of travel. The first permanent magnets (3.1, 3.2) are integrated as semicircular magnets into retainer yokes (6.1, 6.2) which are rigidly joined to one another via at least one connection rod (7) so that the released potential energy between one of the movable permanent magnets and the associated fixed permanent magnet is utilised as this one movable permanent magnets moves out of the movement path of the magnetic body so as to summon up the potential energy between the other permanent magnet and the associated fixed permanent magnet.
