A device to produce a gloss on the surface of printing has a roller to heat the surface to at least the temp. to soften the layer which is printed, it has a gloss film for the surface, and a second roller to apply pressure to the printing and the film against the first roller when the printing is passed through at a set speed; afterwards the film is taken off the printed substrate when the temp. of the substrate is lower than its softening point. Prefd. materials for the gloss film are polyamide, polyester and polycarbonate. ADVANTAGE - The gloss produced is not lower in optically denser areas. It is therefore satisfactory over the whole surface and is hence an improvement over the previous state of knowledge.
