The rail system incorporates the levitation, guidance and drive rails which are supported at as great a depth as possible within the track carrier (11). Pref. the latter comprises a carrier profile (11) to which the multi-function rails are attached, with data transmission lines (4) supported by the latter or a flank of the carrier profile (11). The height of the track carrier may be reduced by full or partial embedding in the ground, for further reduction of the overall height. ADVANTAGE - Reduced complexity and mfg. cost.
