Hot water tank (1, 2, 3) is protected from corrosion, along with piping and fittings associated with the tank, by an arrangement of electrodes. Sacrificial pure Al anodes (A, B, C) form an anode cage, while inert electrodes (D, E, F) with a thin coating of Pt gp. element oxides form an inert electrode cage. Within the inert electrode cage are sacrificial anodes of Mg (H, J, K), forming a further cage. The additional anodes are located in the lower part of the tank, the inert electrodes in the lower and middle part, and the Al electrodes in the middle and upper part of the tank.
