Crosslinkable, fluorine-contg. elastomer compsn. (I) comprises a F-contg. elastomer contg. iodine and/or bromine in the mol. (II), an organic peroxide (III) and a sulphur-contg. cpd. (IV) which is used a plastics vulcanisation accelerator. Pref. (II) is an I- and Br-contg. fluoro-olefin copolymer obtd. by polymerisation of F-contg. olefins (V) in the presence of (un)satd. linear or aromatic cpd. of formula RBrnIm (with R = fluoro-hydrocarbyl, chlorofluorohydrocarbyl, chlorohydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyl; n, m = 1 or 2); or (II) is an I-contg. copolymer obtd. by polymerisation of (V) in the presence of an I-substd. aromatic cpd., a perfluoroaromatic cpd. or an (un)satd. aliphatic, fluoroaliphatic or chlorofluoroaliphatic hydrocarbon; or (II) is a Br-contg. copolymer obtd. by polymerisation of (V) in the presence of a Br-substd. aromatic cpd., a perfluoroaromatic cpd. or an (un)satd. aliphatic hydrocarbon; (II) contains 0.001-10 wt.% iodine and/or bromine; amt. of (III) is 0.1-15 pts. wt./100 pts. wt. (II); (IV) is a thiourea, thiazole, thiuram, dithiocarbamate, xanthate, benzimidazole, oxazoline or sulphenamide; amt. of (IV) is 0.1-5 pts. wt./100 pts. wt. (II); (I) also contains 0.1-15 pts. wt. of a polyfunctional cpd. w.r.t. 100 pts. wt. (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is vulcanised to rubber with excellent resistance to motor oil, solvents, etc. Incorporation of (IV) reduces the amt. of toxic MeBr or MeI which is released when the peroxide decomposes during vulcanisation.
