The operating circuit is coupled to a DC source and has an inverter bridge. The inverter bridge uses at least two power switching semiconductors (2.12,3.13), connected on the output side to a series resonance circuit. The resonance circuit has a self-inductance and a capacitor in parallel with the discharge lamp. The control electrode of each switching semiconductor is coupled to a buffer circuit (39,40). The buffer circuit ensures that teh current through the semiconductor is in phase with the AC output voltage of the bridge inverter, via a capacitor (30) and an associated diode stage (28,29;31,32). ADVANTAGE - Increased compactness and reduced overall cost.
