A composition for anti-AIDS viral and other antiviral medicines comprises spent liquor from pulping and/or processed products thereof as the major constituent. Tests describe the use of ligninsulphonates, kraft lignin and its sulphomethylated products and the reaction products of lignin with dioxane and thioglycollic acid.
