Switching device for controlling multi-function actuator - has compact switch assembly with single operating button for selection of any of four operating modes

A control circuit suitable for operating a vehicle window has a reversible electric motor (57), a motor control relay module (50) and a switching unit (1) containing a pair of independently operable switches (9,9') with a position operating button. A supervisory unit (48) responds to the signal input from unit (1) and selectively energises relay module (50). The four possible operating modes are (a) standstill, (b) inch up, (c) inch down and (d) travel to limit. The required mode is obtained by moving and holding the operating button in one of four angular positions giving respectively, (a) switches (9,9') unoperated (b) switch (9) only closed (c) switch (9') only closed (d) switches (9,9') both closed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Requires fewer switches than previous methods and employs only one multi-position control button.
