The present invention relates to immortalised intestinal epithelial cell lines, to processes for preparing them and to their applications as system for producing growth factors and as model for studying functional and cancerous digestive physiopathology. The mammalian intestinal epithelial cell line conforming to the invention is obtained by transfecting mammalian foetal intestinal epithelial cells with an appropriate immortalising viral or cellular proto oncogene, in that the line thus transfected is immortalised and in that it is not tumorigenic.
