The invention relates to a rotor assembly of a gas turbine engine comprising an inertial damper 29 placed around the main shaft 19 of the rotor, and compressed along its axis between the bearing surfaces 66, 58 of a nut 30 and a bevel gear 24. The damper has two rows axially spaced from slots, the webs which separate two slots from the first row being placed circumferentially in staggered rows with respect to the webs which separate the slots from the second row. The damper 29 is produced so that the axial force which it exerts on the nut 30 and on the bevel pinion 24, its polar inertia module, and the coefficient of friction between its ends and the surfaces of support 66, 58, effectively dampen the excitation of the fifth level of blades obtained in response to the application of a source of vibration of a particular frequency at the bevel pinion 24.
