PURPOSE:To execute the measurement in a short time and with high accuracy and to easily execute the identification of a contained element with respect to an unknown compound by providing a variable speed driving device for moving a spectrum reading position on a photographic plate. CONSTITUTION:First of all, a photographic plate 2 is attached to a photographic plate base 1, and by moving the photographic plate base 1 forward and backward and to the left and the right, an initial position of the photographic plate 2 is aligned with an optical axis. Subsequently, the initial position is read by a position reader 4 and wavelength is inputted to a CPU 5 as the initial position. By further moving the photographic base 1 and inputting the wavelength and a position relation on the photographic plate base in other one point or plural points of a known spectrum, a relational expression of both of them is derived by an operation. Next, by aligning a spectrum to be measured with the optical axis, moving the photographic plate 2 by a motor 12, and inputting photographic density and absorbance of the photographic plate 2 and the position to the CPU 5, whether the element concerned exists or not is stored in a storage device 8. In such a way, the measurement is executed in a short time and with high accuracy, and with respect to an unknown compound, the identification of a contained element can easily be executed.
