PURPOSE:To improve learning precision and learning speed and improve the operability and exhaust characteristic of an internal combustion engine by using the maximum values of the excess fuel and deficient fuel for learning when the acceleration augmentation correction coefficient is set by learning. CONSTITUTION:The estimated fuel quantity sucked into an engine combustion chamber is calculated by a means (h) based on the basic fuel injection quantity (b) and the air-fuel ratio (c). The acceleration augmentation fuel quantity is calculated by a means (i) based on the basic fuel injection quantity (a) and acceleration augmentation correction coefficients (e) and (f). The target fuel quantity is calculated by a means (j) based on the basic fuel injection quantity (b) and the target air-fuel ratio, and the weighting factor related to the deficient fuel is set by a means (k) according to the acceleration progress. The period when the excess fuel and deficit fuel occur in the same tendency is recognized as a group by a means (l). The period when the excess fuel and deficit fuel become maximum respectively is selected from the above group by a means (m). The acceleration augmentation correction coefficient is updated according to the above maximum period by a means (n).
