ANTI-MUTAGENIC ACTION SUBSTANCE ORIGINATED FROM FOENICULUM VULGARE MILL

PURPOSE:To provide an agent useful for preventing and inhibiting cancer, aging, etc., and employed for drugs, cosmetics, etc., by compounding as an active ingredient a flavonoid substance which is a water-soluble extract from the fruit of Foeniculum vulgare Mill of an Umbelliferae plant and has a mol.wt. of = a specific value. CONSTITUTION:The agent contains as an active ingredient a flavonoid substance which is a water-soluble extract obtained from the fruit of Foeniculum Vulgare Mill of an Umbelliferae and a flavonoid substance having a mol.wt. of =10000. The active ingredient is prepared by following processes: immersing the Foeniculum Vulgare Mill in a 30% alcohol aqueous solution, filtering the solution, separating the filtrate, removing the ethanol contained in the filtrate, washing the obtained water layer with chloroform or ethyl acetate, concentrating the solution to such the extent as not to produce precipitates, adding the same volume of ethanol, stirring the solution, allowing the solution to stand, removing precipitates, drying the remained solution under vacuum, dissolving the prepared crude extract in methanol under heating, adding ethanol and chloroform to the solution and subsequently drying the deposited product under vacuum.
