PURPOSE:To detect foreign matter in a vial readily and accurately by supporting the vial with an inspecting part, and providing a supporting device which can be vertically moved, a rotating device for moving the supporting device and a lighting device. CONSTITUTION:At first, a vial 2 which is a substance to be inspected is supplied on a conveyer 1 from a feeding turntable. The vial 2 is conveyed on a conveyer 1. When the vial 2 reaches the specified position on the conveyer 1, the conveyer 1 is stopped. Here, a lift member 4 is lowered, and the neck part of the vial 2 is held with a gripper 7. Under this state, the member 4 is lifted. After the member 4 is stopped at the specified position, a cylinder 10 is operated. A lighting device 8 is guided with a guide 8c and positioned at the lower part of the vial 2 which is lifted with the member 4. At this time, the light from a fluorescent lamp 8a is diffused with a diffusing plate 8b. Therefore, the light can be uniformly projected on the vial 2 that is the substance to be inspected. With the fluorescent lamp 8a being lit, the foreign matters in the vial 2 are inspected.
