PURPOSE:To facilitate an operation for fluorescent flaw detection and to detect easily the flaw of an object to be inspected by dissolving a crystalline fluorescent material and crystalline dye in a volatile solvent to prepare a liquid penetrant for fluorescent penetrant testing, coating the liquid on the surface of said object and irradiating UV rays thereon after penetration of the fluorescent material and dye in the defective part and crystallization thereof. CONSTITUTION:A liquid penetrant for fluorescent penetrant testing is prepd. by dissolving 0.1-5pts. a crystalline fluorescent material, for example, anthracene, fluoranthene, etc. in 100pts. volatile solvent, for example, xylene, perchloroethylene, etc. and dissolving a crystalline dye, for example, sudan red, sudan yellow, etc. therein at 5-200pts. by 100pts. the crystalline fluorescent material. If such liquid penetrant is coated on the surface of a specimen so as to be penetrated in the defective part thereof, the solvent evaporates after short time and the fluorescent material and dye crystallize in the defective part. When UV rays are irradiated thereon, the defective part emits the light stronger than the light from the normal part. Since the fluorescent material and dye are used, the need for operating the surface of the specimen after coating of the liquid penetrant is eliminated and the easy observation of the defective part is made possible.
