PURPOSE:To produce a dicarboxylic acid in a high yield due to the stable n- paraffin oxidizing property of a yeast, by culturing a novel fused yeast produced by protoplast fusion in a medium using n-paraffin as a carbon source. CONSTITUTION:(A) A yeast, belonging to the genus Torulopsis and having a dicarboxylic acid-producing ability and an n-paraffin assimilating, ability but an unstable n-paraffin oxidizing ability [e.g. Torulopsis.candida MT 1028 (FERM No.3123)] and (B) a yeast belonging to the genus Pichia and having a stable n-paraffin oxidizing ability [e.g. Pichia.carsonii MTI 1055 (FERM No.6566)] are first subjected to a protoplast fusion to provide a fused yeast belonging to the genus Pichia and having the ability to produce a dicarboxylic acid in a high yield by a resting cell method. The fused yeast cells are subsequently cultured in a medium using the n-paraffin as a carbon source, followed by separating and collecting the dicarboxylic acid from the cultured product.
