AVOIDING OF FAULTY ELEMENT FOR THERMAL PRINTER

PURPOSE:To perform printing without any trouble by making faulty heating elements confront with nonprinting bits by shifting printing data in any direction when a part of the heating elements of a thermal printer becomes defective. CONSTITUTION:In the case of bar-code printing, since the first module of the left-handed character Kl of center bar C is all white bar and also the seventh module of the right-handed character Kr is all white bar, when faulity elements m which fail to energize occur, printing data to put in an output register 2 are given shiftingly in such a way as to confront the defective elements (m) on the white bar. In short, when faulty heating elements are detected, shifting number is calculated by a shifting number arithmetic unit 12 and its signal is sent to a counter controller 11. Whereupon, when data D are taken into a data generator 5, a shift pulse corresponding to the count value of the counter 9 is output, and then printing data (d) is outputted from the data generator 5 to the output register 3.
