PRODUCTION OF HIGH-GRADE PETROLEUM TAR PITCH

PURPOSE: To obtain economically the subject pitch used as a binder in the production of electrodes by introducing a preheated feedstock into a fractionating tower after a condensation polymerization reaction, introducing a part of the residual fraction stream into a vacuum distillation tower and further fractionally distilling it. ;CONSTITUTION: A feedstock such as a high-aromatic hydrocarbon is preheated to about 380-480°C, fed into a reactor, treated under conditions adjusted so as to accelerate the condensation and polymerization and then introduced into a fractionating tower. The influent is separated into a gas, a light distillate and a residual fraction stream. The residual fraction stream is divided into a recirculation stream and a decomposition fraction stream, the latter is introduced into a vacuum distillation tower, and the light decomposition fraction is further fractionally distilled into a light gas oil, a heavy gal oil and a high- rank petroleum tar pitch.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
