PRODUCTION OF TRIS-(TRIBROMOPHENOXY)-S-TRIAZINE, FIRE RETARDANT FOR RESIN COMPOSED THEREOF AS PRINCIPAL INGREDIENT AND FIRE RETARDING OF RESIN CONTAINING SAME COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To readily obtain the subject compound useful as principal ingredient of fire retardant of synthetic resin in high yield and high purity by reacting a solution of cyanuric chloride in nonhydrophilic solvent and aqueous solution of tribromophenolate using phase-transfer catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of tribromophenolate is added to a solution of cyanuric chloride containing phase-transfer catalyst such as triphenyl ethylphosphonium bromide in a non-hydrophilic solvent such as methylene chloride at a temperature below boiling point of used solvent and further subjected to curing reaction below boiling point of solvent composition of reacting system for 1-5hr, then the non- hydrophilic solvent is removed from the reacting system in reduced pressure or normal pressure to afford the aimed compound having =225 deg.C melting point and 20% weight reducing temperature of 410 deg.C. The aimed compound is used in a tire retardant of synthetic resin such as ABS resin as a principal ingredient, or the aimed compound is added to synthetic resin to make the resin to fire resistant imparting excellent performance to prevent decreasing of light-resistant properties or physical properties of resin.
