The process according to the invention for reducing the dust emission and free air access in the region of the tapping spout of a blast furnace, in the adjoining rocking runner and, if appropriate, in the region of a torpedo ladle or a casting bed provides according to the invention for the application of CO2 snow and/or CO2 gas to the molten crude iron or ferromanganese in the region of the runners or to the casting jet, and/or for the introduction of CO2 into the said runners or vessels before contact with the molten crude material. The particular advantages of the process are: reduction of dust emission, reduction of nitriding, reduction of the energy costs for de-dusting and reduction of the wear of refractories.
