PURPOSE:To easily make correspondence to the change of a membership function, etc., by approximating the membership function of a fuzzy set by linear interpolation between function values to finite number of elements and defining a maximum value at each point of the two membership functions as the object of arithmetic as the membership function value of a sum-set. CONSTITUTION:Sequnces related to fuzzy sets A and B and the membership function values are respectively paired and stored in array-shaped storage devices 1 and 2. A merging means 4 inputs the two sequences stored in the storing means 1 and 2 and all numerical values included in these sequences are outputted in order of the sizes without being overlapped, and stored in a third storing means 3. A comparing means 5 with linear interpolation function inputs the numerical values in this sequence one by one and the membership function values related to the sets A and B of the respectively inputted respec tively calculated. Then, the maximum value is stored in the third storing means 3 as the membership function to the inputted numerical value. Thus, the corre spondence can be easily made to the change of the membership function, etc.
