PURPOSE:To immediately obtain the pattern negative of a desired size by previously providing a light shielding pattern of a prescribed size formed by applying a prescribed tension to a transparent rubber plate which expands or contracts in proportion to the tension to expand the plate and increasing or decreasing the prescribed tension applied on the transparent rubber plate, thereby producing the expanded or reduced pattern. CONSTITUTION:After the prescribed tension is applied to the transparent rubber plate 1 mounted to a square frame 3 by using a sliding frame 4, a resist mixed with a black dye is applied on the surface of the transparent rubber plate 1 and is exposed and developed to form the pattern 2 consisting of the resist. The sliding frame 4 adhered with the end part of the transparent rubber plate 1 is moved relative to the square frame 3 according to a request to apply the tension or relieving force thereof and is thereby so adjusted as to form the pattern of the desired size. The expanded or reduced pattern is rapidly formed in this way.
