SURFACE MODIFICATION OF POLYVINYL CHLORIDE RESIN MOLDING

PURPOSE:To prevent permanently the surface migration of a plasticizer or the like by subjecting the surface of a molding of a polyvinyl chloride resin containing a (meth)acryloyl group-terminated modifier to low-temperature plasma treatment in an atmosphere of a fluorinating gas. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. polyvinyl chloride resin (e.g., flexible polyvinyl chloride resin) is mixed with 0.2-30pts.wt. modifier comprising a (meth)acryloyl group-terminated organic compound (e.g., phenylpolyethylene glycol acrylate). This mixture is molded and the surface of the produced molding is subjected to low-temperature plasma treatment in an atmosphere of a fluorinating gas (e.g., perfluorocarbon/hydrogen mixture). In this way, a crosslinked fluorinated polymer layer containing the modifier is formed on the surface of the molding and, therefore, it is prevented from being degraded and is given, especially, prolonged stain resistance by irradiation with ultraviolet rays.
