In a [lacuna] of at least one transporting and draining-off runner installed at a taphole of the metallurgical furnace and of a transfer station with a swivelling or rocking runner, where the liquid metal runs from the draining-off runner via a distribution system into the outlet openings, from which it drains off into a preferably movable casting vessel, it is proposed to cover from the taphole of the metallurgical furnace the draining-off runners conveying the liquid metal by means of covering hoods, to shield the transfer station substantially gastightly, to flush the respective inner spaces with inert gas and additionally to shield the liquid-metal draining-off stream from the discharge opening down into the casting vessel from a pressure/inert-gas jacket of substantially annular cross-section, which prevents the supply of air. By virtue of this method, the production of flue gas is effectively prevented.
