Gas under pressure, particularly natural gas, is heated in a system containing an expansion machine for it, an internal-combustion engine, particularly gas-driven, and a first cooling circuit with heat-exchanger dissipating the heat from the engine cooling system to the gas. The output shafts of the engine and the expansion machine can drive one and the same power generator, particularly an electric generator.
