The invention relates to a process for the disposal of domestic garbage, while recovering oil, carbon black, metals and ceramic (among which vitreous) valuable materials, wherein the domestic garbage is pre-dried and homogenized, by compressing at a pressure of at least 15 MPa while removing the separated water, said garbage subsequently is dried, while also air is driven out and the dry domestic garbage, thus brought in a substantially anaerobic condition is subjected to pyrolysis, and the oil and carbonaceous materials formed in the pyrolysis are recovered and metals and ceramics are separated by classification. Preferably the domestic garbage pre-dried by compression is dried, by exposing it in a space cut off from air supply to electromagnetic waves having a frequency between 300 MHz and 300 GHz, in particular 800-2000 MHz, e.g. in magnetron and/or ionotron ovens.
