A method of obtaining a mixture of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-4,4'-diphenoquinone and 2,6-dimethyl-p-benzoquinone, consisting in oxidization of 2,6-dimethylphenol, characterised in that 2,6-dimethylphenol is dissolved in hydrous-acetonitrile acid solution of perchloric acid and then oxidized by ceric perchlorate in the medium of hydrous solution of perchloric acid, however, the precipitated deposit of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-4-4'-diphenoquinone is filtered off and from the filtrate is extracted 2,6-dimethyl-p-benzoquinone.
