A DNA sequence which codes for a polypeptide having the activity of human interleukin-2 is provided. This DNA sequence can be inserted into a vector DNA which is capable of replication in a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell, and the DNA obtained by recombination is suitable for transforming a cell line through cultivation of which interleukin-2 is then produced. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of interleukin-2 using a cell transformed in this way.
