METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MAKING COMPACT PACKAGES FOR SPREADABLE PRODUCTS

ABSTRACTMethod and apparatus for making compact packages forspreadable products wherein base cards are cut from a supply ofrelatively stiff material, scored, bent into the shape of achannel, reopened, and a portion of spreadable product isthereafter deposited onto each pre-bent base card. Top sheetmaterial is drawn from a supply of relatively flexiblematerial, scored parallel to each edge, folded and compressedto form a crease at the fold line, and then reopened to arelatively flat position. The creased top sheet material iscut into individual creased sheets which are deposited androlled into adhering contact with the top surface of thespreadable product while simultaneously bending and pressingthe channel sides into adhering contact with the sides of theproduct. The sides of the bottom card are then raised and boththe top and bottom channel sides are pressed into overlappingabutting contact with each other and with the sides of thespreadable product encased therebetween.
