ELECTROMAGNETIC FLOWMETER FOR CONDUCTIVE AND DIELECTRIC FLUIDS AND ITS APPLICATIONS IN PARTICULAR IN OILFIELD

ABSTRACTThe invention is a non-intrusive system for measuringthe flow rates of insulating or conducting fluids inconduits. It results from the combination of an elec-tromagnetic flowmeter, operating with conducting fluids,and of a triboelectric noise cross-correlation flow-meter, operating with insulating fluids. The system isequipped with a non-intrusive device for measuring fluidconductivity. The electronic signal processing unit usesthe conductivity value to decide which of the two sen-sors is providing a signal effectively representing thefluid flow rate.The electromagnetic flowmeter may use electrodes ofsmall cross-section in contact with the fluid or, moreadvantageously, it may be of the capacitive type usinglarger section electrodes isolated from the fluid.
