Abstract of the DisclosureOcta-substituted derivatives of the macrocyclictetramers obtained by condensation of resorcinol with an alkylaldehyde, wherein the substituents are alkanoyl,p-alkylbenzoyl, and p-alkoxybenzoyl chains. These substitutedtetramers show stable, tridimensional, columnar type mesophaseswherein the crystalline lattice is formed with the centralmacrocyclic rings stacked one on another according to orderedcolumns, each ring being surrounded with alkyl chains in themelted state.
