A pedicel screw can be used with a correction and retaining device for the vertebral column. A drawback of this type of correction and retaining device is that when two vertebrae are spread apart in order to straighten up an intermediate vertebra, the latter is displaced laterally toward the inside of the curvature of the vertebral column by the action of the soft tissue sheath. In order to correct this lateral displacement or to prevent it altogether, the pedical screw has a threaded shaft part (60), a spherical segment-shaped or spherical head (61), a cap (62) which can be set on the head with a bearing surface (64) at one end that matches the head (61), and an element (66) connected to the cap (62). The element (66) and the cap (62) are connected to each other so that the distance between the end with the bearing surface and the element (66) can be varied.
