A description is given of a device for ascertaining the particle size distribution and the total particle concentration in a gas, especially in air, which device detects the light scattering of said particles. The pulses contained in the scattered light are counted and correlated with the integral of the scattered light, which makes it possible to ascertain the particle size distribution and the total concentration very accurately in the particle size range from 0.5 mu m to 10 mu m.
