The conveyor, in particular for root crop harvesters, consists of at least two continuous carrier belts (1) which run parallel and at a distance to one another, a number of chain bars (3) which are connected to the carrier belts (1) by their ends (5) with uniform spacing over the length of the said belts (1) and extend transversely with respect to the direction of the conveying movement (4), and of a belt lock (7, 107, 207) which in each case interconnects the ends of a carrier belt (1). The belt lock (7, 107, 207) is here designed as a separate hinge (7; 107; 207), whose connection plates (11, 12) bearing the link eyes (8, 9, 10) in each case engage under a free belt end (13, 14) and, together with a respective pressure piece (15, 16; 115, 116) arranged on the top of the belt end, clamp the belt ends (13, 14) between them. In this arrangement, the pressure piece (15, 16; 115, 116) can be moved against its belt end (13 and 14 respectively) by means of screws (17) which pass through holes in the belt end (13, 14) and transmits its compressive force to the belt end (13 and 14 respectively), via two parallel chain bars (3) assigned to said piece.
