The new code emitter is intended to provide a convenient means of generating and emitting, at little technical expense, a highly encrypted user-specific code for remote interrogation of an answering device. This is also intended to ensure particularly economical operation in terms of current consumption. In the new code emitter, a last-number redialling circuit known per se for telephone circuits is provided as a device for setting and emitting the user-specific code. This circuit has a keypad to enter the code, an electronic memory to store the code, a dialling key to retrieve the stored code and a generator to convert the code retrieved via the dialling key into a sound signal sequence and to transmit this sequence.
