Complicated moulds, particularly those which have a surface with a special design, are nowadays generally produced by machining techniques. These are time-consuming and are difficult to automate. The intention is to avoid these disadvantages. In the new process, a layer (3) of low-melting material is applied to the grand master pattern (2). Only then is the layer (5) of high-strength, high-melting material forming the actual final mould applied to the layer of low-melting material.
