Polymolecular associations, which may be thermotropic, in which the base monomers are linked together by at least two hydrogen bonds. In accordance with the invention a monomer M1 of formula ( SIGMA )m1A (I) in which each of the symbols SIGMA denotes a functional group capable of forming at least two hydrogen bonds with the complementary functional group represented by each of the symbols SIGMA of a second monomer M2 of formula ( SIGMA )m2B (II); A and B denote organic radicals of valency m1 and m2 capable of containing up to 50 carbon atoms and m1 and m2 denote numbers at least equal to 2. As complementary functional groups there will be mentioned especially the pairs: cytosine/isocytosine, guanine/cytosine, adenine/uracil, 2,6-dialkanamidopyridine/uracil. The invention relates further to a process for the preparation of the said polymers and, as new products, to the base monomers M1 and M2 intended for making use of this process.
