The regeneration of waste nickel catalyst is conducted by (1) extracting a part of nickel from waste nickel catalyst with an acidic solution at 60-120 deg.C, (2) heating and reducing the waste catalyst in the atmosphere of H2, (3) impregnating the reduced catalyst with a nickel-containing solution to add nickel component, and (4) heating and reducing again. The acidic solution is chosen from nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, fluoric acid, or their mixture of more than two acids.
