(Bacillus sp. Haitai No.1), which produces polysaccharides, and polysaccharides produced by this strain and its polysaccharides

Bacillus sp. KFCC 10677 strain (I) isolated from soil has the following: (A) in biochemical test, the characteristics are similar to B. polymyxa, (B) has high cellulase activity, (C) can grow at pH 5, (D) can produce thermo-plastic mucopolysaccharide (II) as 1253 mpa.s at room temp. and 2219 mpa.s at heating in 1% sol. Prodn. of (II) comprises culturing (I) in a medium contg. 2% starch, 1% soybean meal, 0.1% KH2PO4. 0.1% NaCl, 0.05% MgSO2-7H2O (pH 5.8) at 32 deg.C for 24 hrs in 50% DO condition, centrifugating at 8000 rpm 30 min. with 2 vol. of water for dilution, and precipitating with 5 vol. of isopropanol. Yield is 6.41 g/l and conversion rate= 32%. (II) contains 10.06% protein, 4.02% lipid and 85.49% carbohydrates.
