A precisely shaped and dimensioned explosive charge, esp. of hollow type for military use, and to be enclosed in a metal casing, is first formed by cold iso-static pressing. The formed body, machined if necessary and possibly within a protective casing, is then cooled for up to 2 hrs. in a bath held at (-)50 deg.C to (-) 100 deg.C. Brought to this temp. throughout, the body is then inserted in the metal casing which has been heated to +50 deg.C to +80 deg.C. The assembly is then brought to room temp. with the explosive expanding and the casing contracting to produce a gap free pressurised contact. The metal casing may be of light metal, with or without reinforcement by glass or carbon fibres. USE/ADVANTAGE - Suitable for anti-aircraft or rocket propelled projectiles. The light-wt. assembly is formed with low risk. Intermediate protector casing prevents frosting which could lead to water penetration.
