(A) Resorufin glycosides of formula (Ia) and (Ib) are new. In the formulae, R = glycosyl; R2, R3 and R5 = H, halogen or lower alkyl; R4 and R6 = H, halogen, CN, lower alkyl, alkoxy, COOH, alkoxycarbonyl, carboxyalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, or COO(CH2CH2O)nR7; or R6 = NO2 or a sulphonyl gp.; R7 = H or lower alkyl; n = 1-4; Y = N or N-0. (B) Intermediates of formula (II) are also new, provided that R1 and R6 are not both H.
