A process for sweetening a hydrocarbon feedstock containing sulphur products. It is characterised by the use of a supported catalyst treated with an anhydrous alcoholic solution containing an alkaline agent. The catalyst can also be regenerated by treatment with the aid of an alcoholic alkaline solution.
