The method is distinguished in that the influencing and/or control is effected by adding an effector to an existent mixed biocoenosis, and that this effector is formed by at least one non-toxic substance which acts to inhibit or promote, predominantly via the membranes, differentially or selectively certain species of microorganisms in the mixed biocoenosis.
