A device for holding and guiding an electric hedge clipper (20) has a chassis (1) with two running wheels (4, 5, 6) arranged one behind the other on each side. Arranged on both sides of the chassis (1) are upwardly projecting parallel-running spars (7, 8, 9), along which a transport carriage (10) is guided displaceably. Guided displaceably on the transport carriage (10) transversely to the direction of travel is a cross-piece (16), at one end of which a receptacle (19) for the hedge clipper (20) is arranged rotatably. The weight of the hedge clipper (20) is compensated by a counterweight which acts on the other end of the cross-piece (16). The spars (7, 8, 9) are designed so as to be tiltable to both sides about an axis running in the direction of travel. A handle (39), which serves for pushing the device, is connected to the spars (7, 8, 9) on both sides of the chassis (1) and thus serves at the same time for tilting the spars (7, 8, 9) in order to compensate unevennesses of the ground on which the device is pushed.
