The yarn guide mechanism for a flatbed knitter, has guide components with open indents to guide and/or deflect a yarn. The indents are open grooves at the edge of the guide component, for the yarns to be laid in place to be knitted. The yarn guides are plates or bars. The inner surfaces of the indents and/or the edge surfaces are of a material and/or shaped to ensure that the yarns slide through the indents smoothly. Open eyelets are inserted into the indents. The guides can be tensed springs. ADVANTAGE - The appts. is simple, and time-consuming threading of the yarn from bobbin to knitter is eliminated.
