The yarn guide assembly, for a flatbed knitter, has an additional yarn guide (16/1, 16/2) for each yarn (20, 21) used, which can be set against the yarn guide boxes (13/1, 13/2) in each direction of yarn guide travel. The additional yarn guides (16/1, 16/2) are pref. adjustable against the yarn guide boxes (13/1, 13/2) by a max. distance (A) or against the carriers (17) moved with the slide. The carrier for an additional guide can be set at the yarn guide box or at the sliding rail (12) for the yarn guide. The carrier (17) for the yarn guide has a drive coupling to the yarn guide box or slide, through a gearing. The yarn guide to give yarn retraction has movement at the carrier. The yarn guide can be a spring-loaded roller at the carrier, or at a spring-loaded lever at the carrier. ADVANTAGE - The mechanism gives an effective and rapid yarn retraction at the ends of the knitter.
